Annual report of 180 countries and territories finds that the environment for journalism is \u0027bad\u0027 in seven out of ten countries

The report found more than 100 journalists are currently detained in the country, adding it uses “surveillance, coercion, intimidation and harassment to keep independent journalists from reporting on issues it deems ‘sensitive.'”

Keith Moses, 19, was later indicted on first degree murder charges. After shooting Augustin, Moses allegedly returned to the scene, shooting Lyons and Walden, before running into a nearby home and fatally shooting T’Yonna Major, 9, and her mother, who survived.Article content The report notes that more than 80 per cent of Canadian media is owned by five corporations, and reporters have been arrested while covering protests, including those focused on Indigenous rights and land usage. The report also notes that overall trust in media has declined in Canada and online harassment poses a threat, especially for women and minority journalists.

Referring to the unprecedented rises and falls in the Index, Christophe Deloire, RWB secretary-general, noted the instability is “the result of increased aggressiveness on the part of the authorities in many countries and growing animosity towards journalists on social media and in the physical world.”
