THUNDER BAY — The Canada Games Complex is set to close for around four months beginning in June as it undergoes significant renovations, the city has announced.
Around 80 per cent of the cost will be covered by the federal government through its Green and Inclusive Community Building Program. City council will consider a recommendation to award a $3-million tender for the work to locally-based Aurora Construction on Monday. “We are lessening our environmental footprint with the facility operations, while also making it more modern, inclusive, and inviting for patrons,” said construction services supervisor Kelvin Jankowski in a release. “To minimize the impact, the closure will take place while other outdoor recreation options are available such as beaches, outdoor pools, splash pads, and trails.”
