It was a rough start for the Canadian team skipped by Brad Gushue, but the home side bounced back to beat Italy in the evening.

Up 5-4 after six ends, Canada took advantage of a deep final throw by Italian skip Joel Retornaz in the seventh end to score three and take an 8-4 lead. Italy scored two in the eighth, but after Canada replied with another pair in the ninth, Italy conceded the victory. Canada returns to action for two more games Sunday, facing New Zealand in the 2 p.m. draw and Norway in a 7 p.m. start.: Canada never found its footing against the Swiss, conceding two in the first end.
