I have some old Series EE US savings bonds that have matured, but I have not cashed them in. I would like to give them to my grandsons, but from what I have read on Treasury Direct, I will have to pay income tax on the accrued interest in order to give them away. Is this correct?Series EE bonds that have matured cannot be reissued in someone else's name. The bonds can only be redeemed.
In your case, that is still an acceptable result. Just cash them in and give the cash to your grandsons.
