One size rarely fits all, and startup software company Ethena believes that something as important as sexual harassment training certainly shouldn't be a cookie-cutter experience. Instead, the software, which is currently set to be released in January of the new year, promises to offer a unique educational experience for each employee and one that just might make them look forward to logging on.

The platform is the brainchild of Roxanne Petraeus and Anne Solmssen. Petraeus is a Harvard and Oxford graduate, Rhodes Scholar, combat veteran and former McKinsey consultant. Solmssen is a Harvard computer science grad and former engineering lead at a venture-venture-backed startup called Mark43.

"Not to pat ourselves on the back, but we use a witty, irreverent tone because we recognize the reality of 2019—there a million interesting things to do online, and if we aren't one of them, we'll lose people's attention. We think there's no moral high ground to being so boring that people tune out, and from customer interviews, we've heard hundreds of versions of, 'I usually just push play and then scroll Instagram until I need to click an answer.

We want to earn people's attention through smart content presented in an engaging tone, and we've found humor helps ideas resonate. For example, in our content on being inclusive to pregnant colleagues, we point out that pregnancy is not like Crossfit. People don't want to talk about it all the time, so keep asking Karen in Engineering about the product roadmap, not just about what crib she's buying," explains Patraeus. ...
