The suspect fled on foot after the shooting and is still at large, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
On January 10, Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish, addressed the crime statistics for 2021 in a statement released by the police.
He continued:"This is in large part due to the overwhelming efforts of our police officers and professional staff. That being said, every murder is a tragedy and one life lost to violent crime is one too many. The Long Beach Police statement also highlighted how they are attempting to combat gun crime. They noted that gun arrests were up 36 percent compared to 2020 while overall arrests were down 18.9 percent.
"As a whole, the Department has seized a total of 1,057 firearms, a 37.3 percent increase from 2020. Since implementation of this program, the rate of violent crime has continued to decrease," the statement read.
