But with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and B.C. Lions firmly looking like the class of the CFL’s West Division at the moment and the Edmonton Elks sadly bouncing from one seemingly rock-bottom game to the next, it seems reasonable to assume the Stamps and Riders will be fighting for third and fourth place at the end of the season.
It’s popular to say that the next game is always the biggest game in the football world, though, and the Stamps are trying to keep that perspective as they head to Saskatchewan.“There’s a lot riding on every game, that’s the truth about pro football,” Stamps linebacker Micah Awe said. “No one goes out there thinking ‘You know what? If we lose this one, it’s alright.’ No one goes out there doing that.
Everyone around McMahon Stadium is disappointed in how the season has started. The passing game, in particular, has struggled to find its groove. Injuries to key players like Malik Henry, Peyton Logan and Ka’Deem Carey certainly haven’t helped, but there are improvements to be made everywhere. Jake Maier threw for 288 yards and a touchdown. There were moments where he was more accurate than he has been in other games this year, even without Reggie Begelton playing and with Henry going down with a torn Achilles tendon that will keep him out for the rest of the season.
