This year's temple will resemble an upside-down desert flower.
For the first time in three years, the Burning Man arts festival has announced a design for a new
, which acts as a healing space for festival-goers before it's burned down along with the famous"Man."written by Katie Hazard, the associate director of art management for Burning Man. The temple, named Temple of the Heart, is designed by artist Ela Madej and designer Reed Finlay. "Temple of the Heart is designed to look like an upside-down desert flower with a stem reaching up into the sky, serving as both a beacon as well as a sundial. It creates a feeling of being near a heart, wrapped in love for those who seek solace and respite. At night it will glow with soft, warm, welcoming light," Hazard's blog post states.
The structure will be built on a 12-pointed star-shaped base, with Eastern European floral lace patterns on the ceiling panels. Stretching to the ceiling in the center of the temple will be a pillar of over 100 volunteer-made wooden"roses," which will serve as an altar.
