Burnaby North Secondary's Luna Lu will play alongside LPGA Tour pros like Brooke Henderson in Vancouver this week.

A star golfer from Burnaby has qualified for the 2023 CPKC Canadian Women's Open in Vancouver this week.

Luna Lu, a 15-year-old preparing to enter Grade 11 at Burnaby North Secondary next month, earned a spot in the national championship after battling it out against 40 professionals and top amateurs at the Point Grey Golf and Country Club Monday . Shooting one-under 71 in the final qualifier, Lu finished tied for third place to clinch one of the four final spots in the open, which tees off at the Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club Thursday .

Lu will face a field of 156 players, including 15 Canadians like LPGA Tour pros Brooke Henderson, Maddie Szeryk and Alena Sharp. "Luna is the star golfer on the Burnaby North Golf Team, and is a junior member of the Canadian National Golf Team," Burnaby North teacher and coach Larry Seehagen said in an email to the NOW.The CPKC Canadian Women's Open is making its return to B.C. for the first time since 2015 when the Vancouver Golf Club in Coquitlam hosted the annual tournament.
