Can we count on the defense to still be a strength, or could it become the Broncos Achilles heel?
Denver Post Broncos writer Ryan O’Halloran posts his Broncos Mailbag periodically during the off-season.I hear a lot about how great our defense is based on stats from last year. However, all was not perfect. In the meantime, we lost Vic Fangio replaced by a question mark to call defensive plays , we lost several players and we currently lack some depth, especially in the secondary.
Are the Broncos done signing free agents or will they bring back safety Kareem Jackson or cornerback Bryce Callahan and maybe re-sign running back Melvin Gordon to back up Javonte Williams?The door likely closed on Callahan when the Broncos signed nickel cornerback K’Wuan Williams from San Francisco last month.
I am more in favor of adding a safety through the draft or leaning on Caden Sterns to play Kareem Jackson’s spot alongside Justin Simmons. We could probably declare a winner with tiebreaker No. 3 — win percentage in “common games” which includes the AFC West’s games against the NFC West and AFC South this year.
Solder is more of a left tackle by trade and has started 143 regular-season games, including 16 for the Giants last year. The Broncos are set at left tackle with Garett Bolles and so far have a three-person right tackle competition between Calvin Anderson, Billy Turner and Tom Compton.
