Following a fight at the 16th Street BART Plaza late this afternoon, a man was shot and taken away by an ambulance with life-threatening injuries,
according to the police.
Several onlookers described a crowd of about 20 young people gathered near the bus stop on Mission Street before the shooting occurred. Watching from the storefront across the street, Esther remembers seeing one man in a pink shirt at the center of the skirmish. Waiting for a Food Not Bombs meal, Enzo, 70, said he heard a lot of women talking loudly immediately before hearing the pops. Police arrived at 5:41 pm, about five minutes after the shooting occurred, blocking off a portion of Mission Street and the entirety of the northeast plaza with police tape. The paramedics arrived soon afterward and immediately administered CPR.
By 6:30 p.m., the BART plaza was still teeming with police, but most onlookers had cleared out of the area.
