As the Supreme Court finds itself in an unwelcome political spotlight at the start of a new term, Justice Stephen Breyer defended the institution Sunday in an interview on CNN's"Fareed Zakaria GPS," insisting that the court is driven not by political considerations, but by judicial philosophy.
"There are many jurisprudential differences," Breyer said."It isn't really right to say that it's political in the ordinary sense of politics."It's a liberals' lament at the Supreme Court now for Breyer, Sotomayor and KaganThe court is poised to tackle issues next term that dominate the political discourse, including disputes centering on abortion, gun rights and religious liberty.
