The first season of Shrinking ended with an incredibly unexpected plot twist that fans will finally get to see the after-effects of over a year later, with the show returning to Apple TV+ later this month. The show boasts an impressive team behind it, with How I Met Your Mother’s Jason Segel, Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein, and Bill Lawrence, who’s known for creating shows like Ted Lasso.
Screen Rant interviewed Bill Lawrence to discuss the tone of Shrinking season two, exploring new character dynamics, and changes to the show’s cast. I pitched the whole second season - when Brett and I, and Jason, when we first pitched the show - as being about forgiveness. That relates to forgiving someone else in your life, like if you have a father and daughter that the father dropped the ball, but it could also be about forgiving yourself if you're somebody like Grace.
Jason and Brett really lobbied, and it was the best decision I ever get to fakely take credit for. I think people will be not only surprised, but super impressed. What a talented young guy. It annoys me that he's so good. They're so good that they earned stories with all of these characters. And watching Luke and Harrison Ford, and their relationship develop, and spar with each other. It means the world to me, the same way we get to see a lot of Lukita with the other adult characters in this show, besides just her father. I think the young people in this show kill it. If they were stocks, I would invest in both of their careers - super talented.
