Washington has more salary cap space than any team in the league — and plenty of holes to fill. Will it spend big?
The Washington Commanders have every resource a team could want to begin to rebuild their roster: the No. 2 pick in the draft, eight additional picks to spend on young talent or trades and more salary cap space than any team in the league .Their offseason shopping begins in earnest Monday at noon Eastern time, when the NFL’s two-day “legal tampering” window opens and unrestricted free agents are able to agree to deals with other teams.
Two-time Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons, 30, may fetch more than Kam Curl on the open market, but his versatility and ball-hawking ability would be intriguing in coordinator Joe Whitt Jr.’s defense; Simmons tied for the league lead in interceptions in 2022 despite missing five games.
