Breakfast in Preston's new Home Bargains café was like eating in a hospital waiting room

When the new Home Bargains in Preston opened up in November, the last thing I expected it to have was a café.

So I did the whole 'trace your steps' thing. I entered the store, stomped my way down to the end already hangry and in serious need of coffee- my fault for not eating breakfast. I then went straight to the counter, acting as if I'd been here fifty times and would sit in my usual spot. It avoided the overcrowded feeling but with every pro comes a con and, to be honest, I felt like I was sitting in a hospital waiting room. Everything was so exposed I could see everyone and everyone could see me and as I sat facing towards the store, everyone shopping who stopped to peek their heads into the cafe looked directly at me and my mismatched choices of breakfast.

Of course in my haste I took a blurry picture so angrily shoved my phone in my pocket and instead just asked 'can I also get that green smoothie please?'. Alongside it I opted for a plant based sausage barm, a croissant and a cappuccino. Generally, my favourite part about going to a cafe is a getting a coffee and a pastry so I went with the two I had most experience with - a cappuccino and a croissant. Safe bets, I thought.
