In a new study, two patients underwent a procedure to implant a device that zaps their brain when they feel the urge to binge-eat -- and it worked, researches say.
Both California women were diagnosed with the disorder and had the surgery after other treatments didn’t work for them, the journalThis is the first time that doctors are trying deep brain stimulation to curb binge eating.
Kai Miller, MD, an associate professor of neurosurgery at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, called the procedure “pretty amazing.” He was not involved in the research.
