Border Patrol seizes more than 200 lbs of meth just north of San Diego County line [Breaking]
U.S. Border Patrol agents on Wednesday seized more than 200 pounds of methamphetamine that had been stashed inside an SUV near Temecula, federal authorities said.
Around noon, an agent patrolling Interstate 15 stopped the burgundy Jeep Grand Cherokee just north of the county line on northbound Interstate 15, according to a Border Patrol news release.After a search, agents located 156 bundles of meth hidden throughout the vehicle in various compartments, including in the doors, tire wells, under the seats and in the gas tank.
Weighing a total of 234.5 pounds, the drugs have a street value of about $469,000, federal authorities said.Border Patrol agents seized the vehicle and turned over the meth to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. They also arrested the 42-year-old driver, a Mexican citizen in possession of a valid border crossing card, on suspicion of narcotics trafficking.
