The Cats dropped a 5-2, rain-delayed decision on Thursday night to the streaking Waterloo Bucks, their fifth straight defeat on their current six-game road trip that wraps up on Friday night against the Bucks.
Waterloo never trailed in the game, taking a 1-0 lead in the third, adding two more in the fourth and singles in the fifth and sixth. It was Thunder Bay’s second loss of the day, after getting edged 5-4 by the Bucks in the first-half of the doubleheader.Robert Spencer got the start for Thunder Bay and gave up three runs on five hits and two walks over four innings.
The bullpen put forth a strong effort, giving up two hits over four innings, hitters Peter Fusek and Carter Allen allowing a walk apiece over the final two innings of the contest. Cole Ketzner had one hit in three trips to the plate, scoring twice and driving in one, while Zane Skansi and Daylan Pena both climbed over .300 with 2-for-4 nights.Thunder Bay returns home on Saturday to host the Mankato MoonDogs, with local favourite Jack Pineau slated to get the start.
