A 62-year-old Boeing whistleblower from Louisiana died in Charleston Saturday, the Charleston County Coroner's Office confirmed with News 4.

John Barnett died from what the Charleston County Coroner's Office described as "what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound" on March 9.At the time of his death, Barnett had been in Charleston for legal interviews for a lawsuit against the company,"Multiple agencies respond to major structure fire at Wild Dunes Resort: IOPPD."
Boeing sent News 4 a statement following the death of Barnett, stating: "We are saddened by Mr. Barnett’s passing, and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
