The launch of Boeing ’s delayed Starliner spacecraft is postponed by at least four days to May 25 due to ongoing efforts to fix a small helium leak in the propulsion system. NASA , Boeing , and United Launch Alliance teams will take additional time to complete the spacecraft closeout processes and finalize flight rationale before launching the Starliner crew capsule.
“Boeing teams are working to develop operational procedures to ensure the system retains sufficient performance capability and appropriate redundancy during the flight,” NASA said in a blog post.will spend the next few days reviewing the data and procedures to make a final decision before starting the flight countdown.
This duo marks the first crew to launch aboard Starliner to the space station under the Commercial Crew Program. After spending about a week at the orbiting laboratory, they’ll return to Earth, making a parachute and airbag-assisted landing in the southwestern US.Boeing’s Starliner, developed in partnership with NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, is built for missions to low-Earth orbit. It can carry up to seven passengers or a mix of crew and cargo.
