Body cameras weren't activated when authorities fatally shot Louisville man, mayor says; police chief fired
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said Monday afternoon that the police officers involved along with National Guard personnel in the early morning shooting of the owner of a barbecue businessFischer also said that Louisville Metro Police Chief Steve Conrad, who had already announced his resignation in May, has been fired, and that a nightly 9 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. curfew has been extended to June 8.
So far, police have given few details about the circumstances and haven't yet indicated whether multiple officers or guardsmen opened fire. They also haven't identified the victim yet.4,400 arrests reported; St. John's Church in DC set on fire Many of those folks said they either knew him or have eaten his barbecue. A group of about 100 people lined the sidewalk across the street from the LMPD line. Some said they'd been at other protests this weekend, but many said they just lived in the neighborhood.
"Right now, we understand he has been removed from outside and he's inside the gray building," Frank said. "It's a forensic investigation. He's the primary evidence in the situation, so it may take a few hours before they get that taken care of." "I don't want people to have to wait several days," Beshear added. "I think it's very important to communicate with the public, especially with the tensions right now."Conrad said that police had"several persons of interest" who were being interviewed following the shooting.
