The move enlarges the main-stage concert bowl and accommodates more spectators on the south side.“That side of the field was always a challenge because people tended to be boxed in, and it was challenging for them to get out, especially on the bigger nights,” said Mark Monahan, Bluesfest’s executive and artistic director.

However, judging by the crush of bodies on the north side of the main stage that night, it appeared that most people weren’t aware of the extra space across the plaza. Keep that in mind if you’re braving the crowds tonight and try to get there earlier in the evening.. For crews to replace the overpass above Bronson Avenue, eastbound lanes will be closed between Carling/Kirkwood and Metcalfe, while westbound lanes will be closed between Metcalfe/Catherine and Rochester.

Still, riding a bicycle may be the best way to travel to Bluesfest. The site is easily accessed from the Ottawa River Pathway, which is open to through traffic, although security is in place to discourage loitering outside the festival perimeter.
