The granddaughter of a Saskatchewan man who was facing massive medical bills in Arizona said on Facebook that her grandfather’s insurance claim denied initially by Blue Cross will now be covered by the company.
Rebecca Fee said in a Facebook post on Thursday that they had learned the decision was reversed after a phone call from Blue Cross.
Lamothe’s medical bills had accumulated into the hundreds of thousands of dollars with a GoFundMe page set up for the family after the public learned of their ordeal. “They are covering the medical flight and hospital bills, not any hotels, meals or travel expenses, but we are extremely relieved,” Fee said.
Fee said her grandfather is in stable condition but that he still has a feeding tube inserted and remains completely paralyzed on his left side.
