Three K-pop artists have earned their first Hot 100 hits in 2021, making it a historic year.

The first woman in the K-pop field to reach the Hot 100 with a debut smash this year was Rosé, better known as one of the four members of the South Korean band Blackpink. The singer went solo in the spring with two songs, one of which quickly found its way to the all-encompassing singles tally in the U.S., as “On the Ground” peaked at No. 70. With that one win, she became just the second solo female K-pop musician to appear on the list at all.
