New changes coming to some Walmart orders could cut down on single-use plastics.
Among the changes is one that will impact those using the nation’s largest retailer’s popular grocery pick-up service.
“Early tests indicate promising adoption rates and potentially helping eliminate millions of single-use bags each year from circulation,” the company said in a statement.In another change, Walmart said “nearly all” items shipped from its fulfillment centers, stores and marketplaces will arrive in recyclable paper bag mailers. The change is expected to eliminate 65 million plastic bag mailers or more than 2,000 tons of plastic from circulation in the U.S. by the end of the current fiscal year.
Online shopping customers will also be able to request consolidation of multiple items into fewer boxes.
