Pressure is mounting on President Joe Biden to secure the release of American hostages taken by Hamas even as the administration seeks to avoid embroiling the United States in another Middle East war.

"From the earliest moments of this attack, we have been working around-the-clock to free American citizens who were taken hostage by Hamas, and we have not ceased our efforts to secure the release of those who are still being held. I thank the government of Qatar and the government of Israel for their partnership in this work," the president wrote."Jill and I have been holding close in our hearts all the families of unaccounted for Americans.

"Americans are still being held hostage by Hamas terrorists," the Republican National Committee captioned the video."And Joe Biden is at the beach." "The leaders affirmed that there will now be continued flow of this critical assistance into Gaza. The President expressed appreciation for Israel’s support in helping to accommodate the release of two American hostages," the readout of the Biden-Netanyahu call states."The leaders discussed ongoing efforts to secure the release of all the remaining hostages taken by Hamas — including U.S. citizens — and to provide for safe passage for U.S.

And both Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed concerns Sunday about the potential widening of the conflict.
