Speaking Thursday at the Democratic National Committee winter meeting in Washington, Mr. Biden said the U.S. is “increasing oil production” and said to oil companies: “A time of war is not a time for profit.”and energy costs surging higher, Mr. Biden also said the crisis in Ukraine underscores the need for the U.S. “to get off dependency on fossil fuels.”
Mr. Biden said Mr. Putin was counting on a divided U.S. and a divided North Atlantic Treaty Organization alliance but instead has energized alliances. Mr. Biden touted the pandemic-relief legislation passed early in his term and the bipartisan infrastructure bill, pushing Democrats to turn out votes in the midterm elections this fall. He added that if Democrats can't hold the House and the Senate, "it's going to be a sad, sad two years."
