The 80-year-old president made the comments at a private fundraiser after narrowly adverting another tumble on the stairs of his plane.
The president “joked that he wanted to climb on the large tree growing in the middle of the courtyard,” according to USA Today reporter Michael Collins.Biden then went on to rail against political violence and maintain he was the best candidate to once again defeat Donald Trump in 2024 and “save our democracy,” according to Collins.
The White House does not permit audio recording of Biden’s remarks at fundraisers and an official transcript was not available as of Wednesday afternoon.Tuesday’s event was not the first time Biden had raised eyebrows in front of donors. Last week, the presidentduring a Manhattan reception, raising concerns about his advanced age.
