The Biden Administration has sought to block the right-of-way status of an access road being planned in Northern Alaska.
The Associated Press reports that the road would run 211 miles from the Dalton Highway to the Ambler Mining District, passing through the lands of Indigenous groups as well as through Gates of the Arctic National Preserve.
Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan condemned the administration’s move, as did Representative Don Young. Governor Mike Dunleavy also denounced the request, calling it another front in the Biden Administration’s war on Alaska. The Tanana Chiefs Conference , meanwhile, thanked the administration, with TCC President Brian Ridley calling the Ambler Road a threat to their people and their way of life.
