, abruptly opening Cantu’s car door and demanding that the teenager step out of the vehicle.
The teenager sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while a female in the passenger seat was unharmed. Cantu and the female, who Ramos said is a “good friend” of Cantu’s, were found about a block away at Parliament Street and Blanco Road. From there, Cantu was taken to University Hospital.Ramos said that he and his mother, Elizabeth Prichard, met Cantu when they were 9 or 10 and that they’ve been inseparable ever since.
“It looks awful. It looks ugly,” said Prichard, who saw Cantu in the intensive care unit with a breathing tube inserted. Cantu was shot in the chest, stomach, leg and one of his arms, she said. In a written statement sent to the Express-News by Brian Powers, a criminal defense lawyer representing Cantu, his family said: “Erik and our family would like to thank all of our family, friends, the great city of San Antonio and everyone around the world that has sent their heartfelt prayers and blessings.”
