Beryl is forecast to move quickly across the southeastern Caribbean Sea Tuesday before passing near Jamaica on Wednesday.
The National Hurricane Center is monitoring Hurricane Beryl and a tropical wave in the central Atlantic Tuesday morning.As of Tuesday's 5 a.m. Advisory from the NHC, Hurricane Beryl has strengthened into a category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph. The storm has entered the Caribbean Sea after causing widespread damage to the Windward Islands.
Beryl will bring hurricane conditions to Jamaica on Wednesday as well as the threat for storm surge and flash flooding. Beryl is forecast to produce 4 to 8 inches of rainfall across Jamaica with 2 to 6 inches of rain possible for southern portions of Hispaniola today into Wednesday.A Hurricane Watch is in effect for all of the Cayman Islands.
Once Beryl moves into the western Caribbean Sea later this week, the system will encounter higher wind shear where some weakening in possible. Beryl is still forecast to remain a hurricane as it heads towards the Yucatan Peninsula by the weekend.Central Atlantic
