Bette’s Oceanview Diner, the iconic breakfast institution on Fourth Street in Berkeley, has closed its doors for good., the family-owned and run neighborhood diner with the red vinyl booths and checkered floors served its last stack of buttermilk pancakes on Jan. 17.

Owner Manfred Kroening told Berkeleyside’s Nosh that finding staff to work the diner’s long hours, another instance of the Bay Area’s ongoing, pandemic-drivenBette’s was known for long waits for French-style eggs, epic pancakes, including gingerbread, and a chance to spin a tune on the 1957 Seaburg jukebox.
