The Kenyan emerged from the pack that chased down American CJ Albertson, the early leader.

on Monday, October 11. The 30-year-old Kenyan surged to the lead in mile 23 and ran unchallenged to a 47-second victory.

It was an atypical race even before the running began: For the first time in its 125 editions, the race was held in the fall rather than on its traditional Patriots’ Day date, the third Monday in April. What are usually leafless trees on race day showed splashes of color. Also for the first time, the elite men’s field of 44 started separately from the rest of the 18,000+ runners.
