Benjamin Levey, who grew up in Bexley, was inspired by his work coaching soccer in Kenya to create the Final Third Foundation in central Ohio.

More than 8,000 miles separate Columbus and Mombasa, Kenya. But for one Grandview Heights man, it feels so much closer.

. Now in its 11th year of operation, it has approximately 500 children participating annually, Levey said. "The Final Third way believes that soccer can be an equalizer across communities and a catalyst to build a better generation," Levey said."Our goals, and how we do that, we grow the game and level the playing field on and off the pitch."

"We use a soccer novel series called The Jamie Johnson Series, which really goes over well with students that we work with," he said."And after school, they play soccer and there are certain words or certain phrases that our program managers use that they then take to the book."These programs target some of Greater Columbus' marginalized populations on the South Side, Northeast Side and West Side, as well as within the Somali community.
