For Oleksandra Drik, a human rights advocate and coordinator of the Center for Civil Liberties in Ukraine, the Belarussian government needs to be held accountable: “The Belarus government allowed the country to be a staging post and launchpad for the invasion of our country, and for Russian weaponry to be stationed and utilized on its territory,’’ she wrote in an email. “These are war crimes in contravention of the Rome Statutes. Belarus must be held to account and duly punished.
“It's painful every day,” she said, adding that her children ask every day when they’ll see their father again.
