Behind Justin Verlander's dominance, Astros top Twins in Carlos Correa's return

He surrendered one baserunner and struck out 10, redefining the term “cruise control.
Verlander threw 91 pitches — his fewest in any start since June 18. The velocity on all three of his pitches aligned with season averages. The Twins taxed him for 19 pitches in the sixth, but rarely does that affect Baker and pitching coach Josh Miller’s management when Verlander pitches. The Astros chose not to Tuesday. It came at history’s expense. Verlander carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning against this same lineup May 10 at Target Field. His stuff looked far nastier Tuesday, an outing that lowered Verlander’s ERA to 1.87.
Verlander harnessed some of his best command all season. He threw his slider almost at will, commanding it both inside the strike zone and for putaway chase pitches. He executed some excellent against a Minnesota lineup with four lefthanded hitters.
