Premier Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives have quietly held the largest political fundraiser in Canadian history, bringing in a staggering $6 million.
Attendees on Thursday night, speaking confidentially in order to freely discuss what they saw, said it was a coterie of elected officials, lobbyists, developers, union leaders, political staffers, lawyers and assorted other hangers-on.
“Communities that were once out of reach for this party are now with us. New seats that we haven’t won in a generation, they went blue,” he said. That was a reference to the Tories’ successful “” push to win traditionally New Democratic seats — thanks in part to the endorsement of eight private-sector unions.
Ford boasted that “for the first time ever, Ontario’s GDP has hit over $1 trillion — yes, that’s trillion with a T.” “We’re taking bold action to build 1.5 million new homes to bring the dream of home ownership into reach for those who have been left behind,” the premier said.
