Bed bugs were discovered at both 101 Colonel By Drive and 320 Queen Street.

Stéfanie Hamel, a spokesperson for PSPC, which operates as the government’s real property manager, said the department received 140 service calls related to the potential presence of pests in 60 buildings in the capital region between Aug. 1 and Aug. 25, with six of those calls related to the potential presence of bedbugs.Bedbugs were discovered at both 101 Colonel By Dr., which houses the National Defence headquarters, and Place de Ville, Tower A, at 320 Queen St.

The following week, on Aug. 21, another suspected bedbug was reported on the third floor. Pest management experts again confirmed a low level of bedbugs and treated the area. Silas said he believed the presence of pets was something that should have been addressed while federal buildings were empty during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that workers had been rushed to return to the office with the government having addressed health and safety concerns.

On Aug. 16, Hamel said, the discovery of a suspected bedbug was reported on that building’s 21st floor.
