At an all-girls Catholic high school in Houston, this transgender teen has been becoming Beau. This is his journey, in 10 moments.
COVID hits and Beau is on lockdown, going back and forth between his parents' houses. No skirts, but no in-real-life contact with friends. He misses them. They describe him as the"fun dad" of the group: He comes up with crazy ideas but makes sure everyone's safe and stays out of trouble.
He gets depressed, anxious. It’s hard not to be, with COVID. He gets a confusing fear of going outside: He only walks alone, and even when he does he feels his heart pound, like someone's following him. He dissociates. Once, he rides his bike on a pedestrian bridge and forgets how to brake and rams into a woman. Reality doesn't hit until she's further down the path, and he yells a belated apology after her.
A big part of his depression, he will realize later, is gender related. He wants to transition. He feels trapped. His memories of that time are a blur.
