'Precious' and 'beautiful' mum died aged just 39 after brave battle with difficult-to-spot disease
The family of a 'precious' and 'beautiful' mum-of-three who died aged just 39 are urging people to be aware of the signs of one particular cancer. Former Manchester Evening News journalist Marie King has died after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
"We will do all we can to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer, in the hope that further research and funding will help others.” Her sisters, Kate and Elizabeth, added: “We were always so proud to call Marie our big sister and never more so than over the last six months. Throughout her illness Marie showed immense courage, dignity and determination to spend as much time as possible with those she loved.After gaining a degree in English at the University of Leicester, she commenced a Post-Graduate Diploma in Newspaper Journalism at the University of Central Lancashire.
As well as writing breaking news, she researched and experienced many facets of south Manchester to produce feature articles such as a light-hearted report of her daredevil turn on the ramps at Platt Fields with BMX World Champion Shanaze Reade. Marie and Rob married in Italy in 2012 and went on to have three children, Ava, seven, Harry, five, and Margot, one. She loved being a mum and wife, and made many friends in the local area, especially other parents on the school run, according to her family.
Despite the 'excellent treatment' she received by oncology specialists, her cancer was too advanced, Marie's family explained.
