Bearspaw First Nation west of Calgary is suing Ottawa over what it says was an unjustly delayed transfer of trust funds costing millions.

“Rather than comply with its statutory and common law obligations, the Government of Canada unreasonably and unjustifiably delayed and stalled transferring money to the Bearspaw First Nation. “As a result, the members of the Bearspaw First Nation have suffered a loss of over $5 million that would have been earned had the trust moneys been transferred when the Government of Canada represented that they would be.”
