Ongoing drought conditions, lower than usual snowpack in Western Canada, and an early start to the wildfire season in Alberta have the federal, provincial, and territorial governments on alert for another challenging summer.

CBC News reported on Feb. 23 that the fire department for Drayton Valley and Brazeau County, southwest of Edmonton, held information sessions for volunteer contractors interested in assisting with firefighting logistics, such as construction workers and heavy vehicle operators. Sajjan met with his provincial and territorial counterparts in Ottawa on Feb. 21, while the ministers also met with the leaders of national Indigenous groups on Feb. 20.
