KTVU's Greg Liggins looks at the Ukraine-Russia situation from the perspective of Bay Area Ukrainians, who are watching the conflict closely.

All Americans and US embassy personnel are being told to get out of Ukraine within the next 48 hours.as Russian troops increase military exercises on land and sea near the border of Ukraine.Biden AdministrationMany Bay Area Ukrainians with friends and relatives in the country are hoping that doesn’t happen, but say it feels inevitable.

"The president will not be putting the lives of our men and women in uniform at risk by sending them into a war zone to rescue people who could have left now but chose not to," said National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan. Russian ships have also been taking part in military exercises near Crimea, a former part of Ukraine that Russia annexed in 2014.

"We have to be ready each day, and it began not yesterday. It began in 2014, so we are ready and that’s why we are here and that’s why you see how our team works," said Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine.
