A day after mudslides caused over 200 ACE train passengers to be stuck for hours in Niles Canyon, more mudslides have caused additional delays as crews work to clear debris.
Intense storms that battered the San Francisco Bay Area for more than a week caused flooding, downed trees and power outages. After another weekend of rain and strong winds, some dry days are ahead this week, but another storm is expected Wednesday. Even with a break in the rain for now, the region is still facing residual effects as a result of the strong storm.
Due to recent mudslides in Niles Canyon, ACE 04 and 10 are canceled today, January 17. ACE 06 and ACE 08 will run at regularly scheduled times.as major roads were closed for much of the day after mudslides. There are also worries about the slides advancing towards more homes, with more potential rain on the way.The sound of chainsaws and wood chippers can be heard all around the Bay Area right now as neighborhoods clean up all the fallen trees uprooted during the storms.Enter Nick Harvey.
Two 10-inch diameter sump pumps are being used to move pooled water from the flooded areas on northbound Highway 99 at Woodbridge Road through about 5,000 feet of steel pipe to the Mokelumne River to the south, Caltrans officials said. The train did not derail as a result of the mudslide and no injuries were reported, according to county fire officials.
