Sierra Canyon wins its season opener without Bronny James and Isaiah Elohim, but the new players Ashton Hardaway and Jimmy Oladokun led the way.

Support our high school sports coverage by becoming a digital subscriber.The Sierra Canyon boys basketball team was without Bronny James, Isaiah Elohim, Noah Williams and Osiris Nalls Jr. in its season opener Wednesday night. But the Trailblazers had two new faces emerge to pick up the slack in an 85-53 win over King Drew of the City Section.

Ashton Hardaway, who signed to play for his father at Memphis earlier Tuesday, scored 18 points and La Verne Damien High transfer Jimmy Oladokun scored 24 points in their debuts. Sophomore Bryce James – Bronny’s little brother – made his varsity debut in front of father, LeBron James, and scored six points.

Bronny was out with illness. Elohim is still working his way back from a knee injury. Williams and Nalls are serving the sit-out-period, per CIF transfer rules. They’ll be available on Dec. 26. Sierra Canyon will play next on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Cleveland High where coach Andre Chevalier played and coached before.Cooper Lucas led the Panthers with 22 points and Charlie Muir added 16. Lucas joined the program’s 1,000-point club Wednesday night. Kyle Sardo led Viewpoint with 21.Oak Park moved to 2-0 thanks to play of Dylan Hayse, a senior that’s proving to be an x-factor for the Eagles. He had 16 points and seven rounds in the win.
