The front lawn of Oak Bay’s municipal hall will host a barbecue on Thursday to raise money for the family of a municipal worker killed on the job last week.
The barbecue, set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., is being organized by one of Steve Seekins’ colleagues to support his family. The 52 year-old married father of two young children was struck and killed by an SUV last week while working on a manhole off Monterey Avenue near the fire hall. The car, driven by a 66-year-old Victoria woman, was heading northbound when it crossed into the southbound lane and jumped the sidewalk into a small park where Seekins was observing the flow of water in a manhole.Oak Bay public works employees have established a memorial to their co-worker at the site where he was killed. The barbecue will be serving pulled pork and brisket by donation.
