South End school wins novice, junior and senior titles at Feb. 18 championships
It had been two decades since Lo-Ellen was host to the boys city finals, and the Knights made the most of the occasion by capturing the novice, junior, and senior crowns.
“He completely took over that second half with his drives and floaters,” said assistant coach Callum Bertrand. “He should be giving clinics on the floater.” Head Coach Tony Church credited the victory to his team’s stellar defense, and their buy-in on the team concepts. Indeed, “team” has been the theme of the season according to Church.
Leading the way for the Jr. Knights was stand out point guard Hunter Laplante with a game high 26. Brayden Legendre scored 13, and Shiloh Sauve added 11. The main course of the afternoon pitted Lo-Ellen’s senior squad against arch rival Lasalle. Having finally wrested home court advantage from the traditional powerhouse Lancers, the Knights completed their undefeated SDSSAA season with a 91-68 victory, and claimed their first City Championship since 2011.
