SaltWire's Atlantic regional weather forecast for October 24, 2023 | SaltWire - Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem told provincial premiers, who publicly called on the central bank not to raise interest rates last month, that their requests could hinder the institution's independence, The Canadian Press reported.
Macklem, responded in a letter on Sept. 13, warning that instructions, or requests from elected officials, could give the impression that the central bank's independence is at risk, it added.
