and the difficulties of this life they’ve chosen, as well as the fun, silly parts . It feels as though BTS rewards their fans for sticking by them — through injuries, threats, and their journey from being part of a small struggling company to becoming the biggest band on the planet.
BTS have mastered the art of making their fans feel as though they are in on a secret and also part of a larger team. That mood shone through at, as RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook remembered their past. The setlist made fans nostalgic for their old eras with songs such as “Like” and “Just One Day” while simultaneously embracing ARMY’s love for their new music. Short previews of “Ugh” and “Zero O’Clock” came with pledges that the longer versions would be performed eventually.
In the final moments, the group left fans with messages of encouragement. They were honest about their disappointment at not being able to perform live. Oldest member Jin called attention to the fact that their original contract with BigHit was meant to come to an end the day before . Jimin acknowledged that the virtual concert situation isn’t ideal, but that the concert — and their time spent online with ARMY — is important too.
Further, Jungkook looked to the future, reminding fans that there are good things ahead, too. “I hope today will mark the start of something new,” he said. Altogether, the concert was a reminder that BTS and ARMY are inextricably tied and will continue to be, even at a time when everyone feels very disconnected. Each is a vital part of the other’s story.
