Spock, Captain Kirk will share a \u0027platonic love at first sight\u0027 relationship on Strange New Worlds, says Ethan Peck.
For Gooding’s co-star Ethan Peck, who plays Spock on Strange New Worlds, the experience was different. For one, his first appearance as the logical Vulcan was on Star Trek: Discovery, the show that Strange New Worlds spun off from in 2022. It wasn’t the USS Enterprise, but the USS Discovery. That didn’t make it any less daunting. He said it felt like a “call to action.”
That mixture of awe and intimidation seems an apt response for Gooding and Peck, actors tasked with filling the giant shoes of Nichelle Nichols and Leonard Nimoy in portraying younger versions of Uhura and Spock. Earlier this week at the Banff World Media Festival, the two actors got a sense of the 56-year-old legacy they are now part of when they accepted the festival’s first Buffalo Rock Award on behalf of the franchise. The award, named after Sleeping Buffalo Mountain, honours longevity.
“As one of our showrunners, Henry Alonso Myers, puts it: Season 2 will be like Season 1 on steroids,” says Peck, who is the grandson of legendary actor Gregory Peck. “I think it’s going to make the fans really happy. We’re going to do some things we’ve never done before in the Star Trek universe that we’re very excited about.”Article content
